Pipeline bursts in Duler, hits water supply to area

Send Push
Panaji: A major 600mm diameter pipeline burst at Duler, Mapusa, on Wednesday evening, leading to disrupted water supply to the town, and a huge waste of water. The incident occurred while excavation work was going on for the installation of a new water pipeline.

A PWD official said the pipeline broke as digging along the roadside was under way.

Within minutes water gushing through the broken pipe, had entered several houses, building basements and a sawmill, resulting in significant flooding in the area. Even traffic movement was affected for some time. This stretch is one of the busiest and many shop owners along the road shut operations. The traders moved their goods outdoors to prevent damage as water flowed on the road for a considerable time.

Authorities acted swiftly, shutting off the water supply and initiating urgent repair work to control the situation.

Triptesh Sirsat, assistant engineer attached to PWD’s water supply section, said that repairs would be completed soon with normal water supply expected to be restored by Thursday.
