Geethartha Chinthane 235: Indirect teaching is way of the divine

Send Push

The Bhagavad Gita was born with the sole purpose of granting the supreme goal of human life — moksha (liberation). There are many paths available in the world for human beings to grow and progress. Among them, if a person uses vyavasāyātmikā buddhi — a resolute and discerning intellect — they can choose the path that leads to liberation.

Whatever we do, if it is offered as worship to Lord Vishnu, it becomes a cause for moksha. But since there are many paths, confusion is natural. This is mainly because deities never instruct directly. Their way is always indirect.

Even their presence is hidden and unseen for the same reason — to prevent misuse. In everyday worldly matters too, ministers and important people are not easily or directly accessible. If they are, people who misuse power come forward and take advantage, while the deserving ones may not benefit.

Likewise, if deities were to appear directly, demons and wrongdoers would exploit them. Hence, it is only through effort, reflection, and inner inquiry that one can understand divine truths. Noble thoughts must be deeply contemplated and internalized — they are not meant to be understood or received easily or quickly.
