Israel on Thursday claimed it killed the chief of staff of Yemen ’s Houthi rebels .
Israeli defence minister Israel Katz said in a post on the social platform X that an Israeli strike killed Maj Gen Muhammad Abdul Karim al-Ghamari along with other top Houthi officials.
"The Houthi terror organisation has just announced that the Houthi Chief of Staff, who was targeted in the powerful first strike that neutralised most of the Houthi leadership in Yemen, has succumbed to his injuries, thereby joining his comrades from the vanquished axis of evil in the depths of hell," Katz said in a post on X.
Israel carried out an assassination attempt against al-Ghamari and other senior Houthi officials on June 12, the Times of Israel reported.
Earlier in the day, Yemen’s Houthi rebels said their military’s chief of staff had been killed following repeated strikes targeting the group’s leaders.
The Houthis did not directly blame Israel for the killing of Maj Gen al-Ghamari. However, Israel has carried out increasingly precise strikes against the group’s leadership.
The Houthi announcement did not provide details on when or how he was killed.
