Russia on Monday said its forces had captured three more villages in eastern Ukraine, extending their slow but steady advance along the frontline.
According to the Russian defence ministry , troops seized the villages of Slodkie and Nove in the Zaporizhzhia region, and Gnativka in Donetsk, as Moscow continues to press its advantage in manpower and equipment across the sprawling eastern front, AFP reported.
The latest announcement comes just weeks after Russia claimed control of two villages-- Ivanivka, located inside the Dnipropetrovsk region, and Pavlivka in Zaporizhzhia, one of the four territories Moscow unilaterally claims as part of Russia.
Russian outlets also reported last month that paratroopers and other units had crossed the Dnipro River to seize Karantynnyi Island, near the southern city of Kherson, an area that Russian forces captured in the early stages of the February 2022 invasion but later lost to a Ukrainian counteroffensive.
Earlier, Moscow had announced the capture of Pishchane and Tykhe in Kharkiv, along with Pryvillia in Dnipropetrovsk, reclaiming territory that Kyiv’s troops had retaken during their surprise counteroffensive three years ago.
