NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Thursday spoke with Mawlawi Amir Khan , the acting foreign minister of Afghanistan 's Taliban-led regime, and welcomed his 'firm rejection' of the recent attempts to create 'distrust' between the two countries.
"Good conversation with acting Afghan foreign minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi this evening. Deeply appreciate his condemnation of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. Welcomed his firm rejection of recent attempts to create distrust between India and Afghanistan through false and baseless reports," Jaishankar wrote on social media platform X.
"Underlined our traditional friendship with the Afghan people and continuing support for their development needs. Discussed ways and means of taking cooperation forward," he added.
The external affairs minister was referring to Pakistan's allegation of Indian missiles hitting Afghanistan during the recent military confrontation between India and Pakistan. The fighting was halted after Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations reached to his Indian counterpart with a ceasefire proposal, which was accepted.
Earlier, New Delhi dismissed Islamabad's allegation as a "ludicrous claim."
"There is this completely ludicrous claim that Indian missiles have hit Afghanistan. And I only want to point out that Afghan people don't need to be reminded about which country it is, that has on multiple occasions, in just the last one-and-a-half years, targeted civilian populations and civilian infrastructure in Afghanistan," foreign secretary Vikram Misri said on
