Mangaluru: A video clip shot by a citizen led to swift action by Mangaluru traffic police after it exposed a scooter rider violating multiple traffic rules. The video, which surfaced on social media and quickly went viral, showed the rider riding from Bendorewell through Kankanady and Pumpwell towards Thokkottu, without a helmet and with the scooter's rear number plate concealed using a plastic cover.
City police commissioner Anupam Agrawal said that the incident reportedly occurred on March 23 between 4pm and 4.10pm. The police team that examined technical evidence and surveillance footage identified the vehicle. Upon further verification, the owner was traced and found guilty of several violations like riding without a helmet, concealing the number plate, using a tampered number plate, negligent driving, driving without a valid licence, and using a mobile phone while riding. A total fine of Rs 5,500 was imposed.
