MANGALURU: Puttur MLA Ashok Kumar Rai said he took it as a challenge to ensure that all religious shrines on govt land will be given RTCs in the days to come.
The Congress MLA told reporters in Puttur on Sunday that he already raised this issue in the Legislative Assembly and efforts will continue to transfer the rights on those govt lands to the respective temples, daivasthanas, bhajana mandirs, masjids, and churches.
“I raised this issue even when the BJP was in power in the state. I made requests in this regard to Dharmika Parishat members, ministers, MLAs, and the MPs several times before. I requested the people’s representatives to regularise the documents of such religious shrines,” the MLA said.
It is difficult to find churches on govt land, but there are a few masjids built on such public places, he said. Stating that the majority of the religious shrines constructed on govt land belong to Hindus, the MLA said, “99% of the shrines on govt land are bhajana mandirs, temples, daivasthanas, Koragajja katte, etc.”
In such cases, it is difficult to release govt funds for development works of such religious shrines, he noted. “If the religious shrines do not possess RTC for the land, the govt cannot release funds through the religious
endowment department. The govt, which was speaking in favour of Hindutva, never took any initiative in this regard. However, I raised the issue during my first Legislative Assembly session. I appealed to the govt that the revenue department should issue RTCs to those religious shrines in the name of particular gods and not in any committee’s name. I took this as a challenge to ensure that this demand be fulfilled in the days to come. I will continue the efforts in this regard and prove what is religion and the Hindutva,” Rai said.
