Mangaluru: In protest against the jammer at Mangaluru Jail, a roadblock demonstration was held in front of the jail by the members of the BJP Mangaluru City South block on Saturday.

Mangaluru City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said, "Either fix the jammer issue or remove it, otherwise, we will remove it ourselves. This was conveyed to jail officials to city police commissioner, deputy commissioner, and finally the home minister. Even though the MLC of the Congress issued a press statement promising to resolve the issue immediately, the problem continues."

During Congress rule, only when the public takes to the streets is there a response, Kamath said. "If jail officials were competent, there would be no need for a jammer. Ironically, the mobile network is still available inside the jail but not for people outside. Due to their negligence, a patient recently died without receiving emergency treatment. Who is responsible for this death?" he quried.

When the agitated BJP workers tried to break through the barricades placed at the jail, the police attempted to stop them. During the ensuing scuffle, BJP's former corporator of Kambla ward Leelavathi Prakash fell ill and was admitted to KMC Jyothi Hospital.

BJP leaders Ravishankar Mijar, Premanand Shetty, Divakar Pandeshwar, Sudhir Shetty Kannur, Kishore Kottari, Bhanumati PS, Manohar Kadri and Shakeela Kava were present.
