Kanpur: Two people died when a car ran over them while they were changing the tyre of a loader vehicle at the Koyla Nagar flyover in the Chakeri police area on Friday night. Besides the driver of the loader, two people travelling in the car were also injured. Police arrived at the scene, sent the injured for treatment, and informed the families of the deceased.
Rahul Srivastava, a resident of Barra 5, is the Magic driver. He said that on Friday evening, he was transporting scrap from Gehra in Unnao to Panki in his vehicle. Shri Om Pandey, 30, from Barra 6, and Nathu, 42, from Barra 8, were also in the Magic.
Rahul said that the rear tyre of the Magic got punctured near Chaudhary Dhaba on the Koyla Nagar flyover. When Rahul, Shri Om, and Nathu began changing the spare tyre, a speeding car came from behind and collided with the Magic. In the accident, Nathu died on the spot, while Rahul and Shri Om were injured. Two people in the car were also injured. The accident caused a traffic jam on the flyover. The police arrived at the scene, sent the injured to Kanshi Ram Hospital for treatment, and cleared the traffic.
Shri Om was referred to Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital in a serious condition, but he died on the way. Meanwhile, the car occupants left after receiving treatment.
Station in-charge Santosh Kumar Shukla said that the accident occurred while changing the spare tyre. The car has been seized, and a case will be registered based on a complaint for further action.
