Gurgaon: A review meeting on the attendance of MCG sanitation workers revealed that as many as 932 workers were not marking their attendance on the solid waste management portal created by the urban local bodies (ULB) department. At the meeting chaired by MCG commissioner Ashok Kumar Garg on Friday, joint commissioners of each zone were directed to investigate the matter and submit a report within two days.
MCG officials say the attendance discrepancy could be due to multiple possibilities, such as a glitch in the system or supervisors being unable to mark attendance online.
The MCG has 5,066 registered sanitation workers engaged in the city's sanitation services. These workers are registered on the portal. However, only 4,134 workers were found to be marking their presence on the portal on a regular basis. "We found that the attendance of 932 sanitation workers is not being marked on the portal. There could be multiple reasons behind it, including a technical glitch," said MCG joint commissioner Akhilesh Yadav.
The ULB has now made it mandatory to route salaries to the sanitation agencies through the portal. The SWM portal tracks work records of sanitation workers, and supervisors mark attendance of the sanitation workers on the SWM portal, which serves as the basis for disbursing payments to agencies that supply a workforce and services to the MCG.
The SWM portal was designed by the ULB to ensure that sanitation workers' attendance is accounted for and payments to agencies providing manpower and services to the MCG are made accordingly.
Moreover, to streamline the city's waste management, the commissioner also directed officials to ensure that all vehicles engaged in waste management. This will allow their movement to be tracked to ensure proper waste management. At the meeting, discussions were held on various civic matters, including property IDs and ongoing development projects.
The commissioner also directed officials to expedite the resolution of property ID objections and accelerate the self-certification procedure for property ID information.
