Prince William's subtle dig at King Charles days after reports of 'tensions'

Prince William has made a comment about getting the balance of "work and family life" right and how important it is to have a "stable home" - a comment which may be taken as a subtle dig to King Charles. While William and his father King Charles get on well, it is believed William did face some difficulties in his childhood as a result of his father and late mother Princess Diana's marital problems, which eventually ended in divorce.

Although Charles and Diana separated in 1992, when William was just 10, they didn't divorce until 1996 when he was 14. However before their separation, the marriage was believed to be very challenging, with admissions of infidelity and plenty of arguments.

This turbulent relationship was visible to Prince William and his brother Prince Harry, with William's latest comment about "drama and stress" in childhood, and learning from the mistakes of parents, likely to be interpreted as a dig.

The comment was made by the Prince of Wales on The Reluctant Traveler episode, which sees the royal give Canadian actor Eugene Levy a tour of Windsor Castle.

Speaking to Mr Levy, William said: "Getting the balance of work and family life right is really important. Because for me, the most important thing in my life is family, and everything is about the future and about if you don't start the children off now with a happy, healthy, stable home, I feel you're setting them up for a bit of a hard time and a fall.

"And so, it's about making sure that we can look after our families, look after our children, in a way that is best for their future."

When asked whether the importance of a normal homelife started with Princess Diana's parenting, William said: "Yes definitely, I think it's really important that that atmosphere is created at home. You have to have that warmth, that feeling of safety, security, love."

He continued: "That all has to be there, and that was certainly part of my childhood. My parents got divorced at 8 (he was 14), so that lasted a short period of time.

"But, you take that and you learn from it and you try and make sure you don't do the same mistakes as your parents. I think we all try and do that and I just want to do what's best for my children, but I know that the drama and the stress when you're small really affects you when you're older."

While William may feel this way about his childhood, he is believed to have a good relationship with his father King Charles, despite recent reports of tension. Over the last month, various reports have claimed there is a wedge between the Prince of Wales and the monarch, and that the pair's relationship is not smooth-sailing.

However, this has been dismissed by a Palace insider, with a source telling the Daily Mail: "It's evident there's an attempt to manufacture division between them, when in reality, no such rift exists. In truth, their relationship is as strong as ever, they are aligned in their work, with many areas of shared interest, and united in their vision for the role of the Royal Family."
