An NHS doctor who seemingly celebrated the devastating Oct 7 Hamas attack on Israel has found herself in the crosshairs of the law, arrested on suspicion of stirring up racial hatred.
Dr Rahmeh Aladwan, a junior medic training to become a trauma and orthopaedic surgeon, lashed out at police during her arrest in South Gloucestershire on Tuesday morning, claiming they were acting on behalf of the "Israeli Jewish lobby."
Arrest video reveals doctor's accusations against policeIn a video that has gone viral on social media, Dr Aladwan is informed that she faces three alleged offences related to malicious communications and one for inciting racial hatred.
A police officer states, "On 7th October, you posted a variety of communications which demonstrated support for Hamas' attack on Israel. An attack which involved murder, rape and kidnap of Israeli citizens, all of which may be considered grossly offensive in character."
The doctor, visibly agitated, retorts, "You are doing this for the Israeli Jewish lobby so you can get an arrest on me before my tribunal on Thursday. This is what the UK does to their doctors."
Doctor's social media posts glorify 'the day Israel was humiliated'The arrest comes in the wake of Dr Aladwan's controversial social media posts marking the second anniversary of Hamas' brutal attack on Israel, which claimed the lives of over 1,200 people and saw 251 others taken hostage.
The junior doctor appeared to glorify the atrocities, referring to the event as "the day 'Israel' was humiliated" and praising "the breaking of the 17-year-long illegal siege.", reports The Telegraph.
GMC launches investigation, Health Secretary expresses lack of confidenceThe General Medical Council (GMC) has launched a fitness to practise investigation into Dr Aladwan's conduct, referring her to an Interim Orders Tribunal on Sept 25.
Despite the doctor's claims that the Holocaust was "a fabricated victim narrative," she managed to escape suspension. However, the outcome has left Health Secretary Wes Streeting declaring that he has "no confidence in our regulation system."
Doctor faces second tribunal as controversial posts come to lightDr Aladwan's troubles are far from over, as the GMC has re-referred her to the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service (MPTS) for another hearing on Thursday.
According to The Telegraph, the doctor's inflammatory posts have drawn widespread condemnation, with her describing anti-Semitism and the Holocaust as "concepts" used by Jewish people to "promote a narrative of victimhood" and labeling the Royal Free Hospital in north London a "Jewish supremacy cesspit."
UN report reveals horrific crimes committed during Hamas attackThe gravity of the Oct 7 attack has been underscored by a UN report, which found that Hamas attackers committed heinous acts of sexual violence, including rape and gang-rape of civilians at the Nova music festival, the use of rape and "sexualised torture" against hostages in the Gaza Strip, and even the rape of women's corpses. These disturbing revelations paint a grim picture of the atrocities committed during the attack.
Doctor defends controversial posts, Health Secretary responds on XHowever, Dr Aladwan, who is of British-Palestinian heritage, defended her social media posts during the MPTS hearing last month, claiming they were "legitimate and can be defended and reasoned."
The junior doctor was seen clutching flowers and beaming for the cameras outside the tribunal building.
Health Secretary Wes Streeting took to X to express his outrage, stating, "The racist language of 'Jewish supremacy' reflects the values of Nazis, not the NHS.
"I fail to see how medics using such language with impunity doesn't undermine confidence in the medical profession. I have no confidence in our regulation system."
Met Police confirm arrest, investigation ongoingA Met Police spokesman confirmed the arrest, stating, "On the morning of Tuesday, 21 October, officers arrested a 31-year-old woman at an address in South Gloucestershire.
"The woman was arrested on suspicion of misusing a public communications network, sending malicious communications and stirring up racial hatred.
"The arrests relate to an ongoing investigation, led by the Met's Public Order Crime Team, into allegations that comments made at a protest and online in recent months were grossly offensive and antisemitic in nature. She remains in custody."
