There aren't many TV shows out there that can say they've achieved a perfect score. It's an incredibly rare feat, and only some of the greatest series ever made have managed it. Getting both the critics and the public to agree is even harder. But one show has done just that, landing a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 99% audience score.
What's more, it's available to stream for free on BBC iPlayer right now. Originally broadcast between 2006 and 2007, the series follows a detective who wakes up in the 1970s after a crash in modern-day Manchester. He finds himself working the same job in the same place, but under the command of a no-nonsense DCI with very different methods.
That show is called Life on Mars, and viewers still can't get enough of it almost two decades later.
One person said: "Life on Mars is a rare beast, a TV show that gripped me from the first episode and never let go. The writing, acting and production design are superb. It's a masterpiece."
Another added: "Life on Mars is a brilliant blend of police drama and psychological mystery that stands out as one of the best British TV shows ever made."
A third commented: "Life on Mars is the best program I've ever watched! Every episode has a great story, and it's really good quality."
The show stars John Simm as Sam Tyler, a modern-day detective who suddenly finds himself transported to 1973 after being hit by a car.
He begins working under DCI Gene Hunt, played by Philip Glenister, as he tries to figure out whether he's in a coma, dead, or has truly time-travelled.
The series is a mix of everything from crime and mystery to sci-fi and historical drama.
Among many things it became famous for, what fans and critics called, "its unpredictable twists and bold storytelling".
It even inspired multiple international remakes, including American, Spanish, South Korean and Russian versions.
Life on Mars was named after the David Bowie song of the same name and later followed up by a sequel series called Ashes to Ashes.
The show won two International Emmy Awards for Best Drama Series and received widespread acclaim from critics.
Alison Graham from the Radio Times called it "a genuinely innovative and imaginative take on an old genre," while The Guardian said it was "more than just a jolly, tongue-in-cheek romp into the past."
You can watch Life on Mars now on BBC iPlayer.
