Former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson believes that Alexander Isak's switch to Liverpool will ultimately set the club back by £300million. The Sweden international brought an end to a protracted summer transfer saga on deadline day when he was formally unveiled as a Reds player, smashing the British transfer record following three seasons on Tyneside.
Isak's departure to Merseyside proved controversial, with the striker effectively going on strike to force through a move after missing the club's pre-season tour of the Far East due to a minor knock. He then refused to feature in any pre-season fixtures or the opening month of the Premier League campaign.
Liverpool's new frontman is poised to make his bow for Arne Slot's squad on Sunday away at newly-promoted Burnley. The Reds will be hoping to maintain their perfect league record so far this term when they make the trip to Turf Moor.
Borson has now revealed his thoughts on what Isak's switch to Anfield will eventually cost the Reds in the long run. "I think from Liverpool's perspective, it's a very expensive deal, but we know that," he told Football Insider.
"You don't pay £125million and not expect a lot of cost. For Newcastle, they clear out £125m net on the transaction, so that goes into their coffers. And then Liverpool, you're looking at a £125million transfer fee.

"You have got maybe £5million of solidarity payments. You have got maybe £5million on Premier League levy. You have got agent fees. It's going to be about £150million, and then you've got probably the same again with wages over the six years, maybe another £150million with bonuses.
"It's a £300million deal over six years. It's a massively expensive deal, but he's also a brilliant player. Does it make sense? I don't know, you can only judge these things after the event, can't you really?
"But on the face of it, it makes sense, even though it's very expensive. It obviously won't be repeated every summer. This is an exceptional summer for Liverpool."
