With a shift in the weather, it won't be long before black mould reappears on walls, window frames and silicone sealant in bathrooms. Black mould is a microscopic fungus that thrives in damp conditions, particularly in older homes or those with underlying damp problems.
Indications of black mould include a damp, musty odour and white, green and fuzzy black patches. Besides damaging the home itself, the NHS warns that mould growth can trigger or exacerbate respiratory infections, allergies or asthma.
Symptoms may include coughing, a runny nose and increased sneezing.
It's advisable to tackle black mould as swiftly as possible by either addressing the cause or eliminating it when it surfaces. One TikTok user, posting under @neeson_knows, shared a cost-effective method of eradicating the fungus on the platform.
The best part about this trick is that it costs as little as 35p and you likely already have the necessary item in your cupboard.
The TikTok user explained: "Do you know how to get rid of harmful mould in your house? Well here's how to do it in three easy steps.
"Remember that mould is a living organism so the longer you leave it, the worse that it gets so lets get cracking on getting rid of this.
"We're going to need two things to attack this mould, first thing is white vinegar, you can get this from any supermarket for around £2.
"And second thing, an old spray bottle, just make sure you wash it out so we're not spraying around anything we shouldn't.
"Step two, we spray and lay. wherever you see mould we're spraying it with a generous coating of the vinegar concoction.
"Once sprayed we're leaving it for 60 minutes so that vinegar can penetrate deep into the roots of the mould.
"third and final step, we're taking some kitchen roll and we're scrubbing. Don't be surprised with how much comes off. Just make sure you finish and voila."
The footage demonstrates the man effortlessly wiping away the mould without any scrubbing necessary.
One viewer commented: "Sending this to every landlord rn."
Another wrote: "So useful! Thanks."
A third remarked: "Love this, people don't realise the negative impact of mould on our general health."
A fourth chimed in: "oh... so my window WAS moudly. Good to know. Luckily white vinegar is already my new go-to for cleaning anything atm."
