F1 movie sequel talks 'definitely' under way as Apple CEO Tim Cook drops huge hint

Apple CEO Tim Cook has confirmed that discussions are ongoing regarding a sequel to F1: The Movie. The project, directed by Joseph Kosinski and starring Brad Pitt, became the highest-grossing sports film in box office history last month. The F1 movie enjoyed unparalleled access to the paddock, with fictional team APX GP receiving their own motorhome and garage alongside the 10 constructors in the World Championship.

This, combined with an eye-watering budget and the assistance of Lewis Hamilton as an executive producer, aided in creating a realistic portrayal of racing on the big screen. Speaking to Variety at the Emmys, Cook offered some exciting news for those hoping for a sequel to the 2025 release. "It's definitely something that's being talked about," the Apple CEO revealed.

"It's been such a huge summer blockbuster for us. We're so proud of it. The talent involved are such next level, and Brad did such a wonderful job acting in it. We're super proud of it, and we can't wait to bring it to the surface."

Launching to commercial and critical acclaim, F1: The Movie is now Pitt's highest-grossing movie, bringing in £456m ($628m) worldwide. However, while all signs point towards any future sequel being a success, Hamilton has warned against jumping into a decision.

"We literally just finished it, so I think the last thing we want right now is a sequel," the seven-time world champion said ahead of the British Grand Prix in July. "It's been four years in the making.

"It was a lot of work, particularly for [Joseph Kosinski]. It's time away from your family, it's time away from your kids, and also you need this to just simmer for a while, you know. Like, let's enjoy it.

"I think the worst thing we probably could do is to rush into doing a sequel. Most sequels are way worse, and so we don't need to rush it. I think if we do do a sequel, I would say let's really, really take our time in getting it even better."

Hamilton is currently attempting to end his wait for a maiden Ferrari Grand Prix podium at this weekend's race in Baku, Azerbaijan. The legendary Brit has a best finish of fourth this season, while team-mate Charles Leclerc has already made five trips to the rostrum, ekeing out a 46-point advantage in the Drivers' Championship standings.
