A young couple left fans blasting their renovation as "ridiculous" after they took on a mammoth task on Worst House on the Street. Newlyweds Ben and Milly were joined by brother and sister property developers Scarlette and Stuart Douglas, who were on hand to transform their run-down house into a dream home without blowing the bank.
But the couple's enormous budget of £200k and their desire for six bedroom and six bathrooms had fans stunned, with the experts claiming they were "worried" about the size of the task. Fans were further exasperated when the couple, who lived alone, initially ignored the experts' advice, agreeing to cut down on just one bedroom and one bathroom. It didn't take long before fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to share their confusion online.
One user penned: "A 6 bed 6 bath house?! Why?! That's so ridiculously unnecessary, this couple are a joke, they seem to have no idea how much anything costs".
Another penned: "I really don't understand why anyone needs a kitchen and diner that size, it's obscene and just pointless. These two just want to show off like their mega rich when they clearly aren't."
But with spiralling costs, lengthy delays and a baby on the way, the couple's dream of having their one-year anniversary party in the house was soon a pipe dream.
"The presenters should just let the kids on #worsthouseonthestreet get on with it. Clearly they know everything already ..." a fan added. while another blasted: "This couple really have no idea how much anything costs, how do you go into building a house and a house of this scale and not know how much things like a kitchen and bathroom would cost."
Two years since they applied for planning permission the pair finally completed what the experts described as the "biggest build we've ever seen," with Stuart admitting he had to "reign them in" like "children in a sweet shop"
The ramshackled ruin was purchased for £342km with the budget of £200k being stretched to a whopping £350k, with an all-in spend of an eye watering £692k. Estate agents later valued the property and approximately £850k, resulting in a huge profit for the couple should they decide to sell it in the future.
Some fans blasted the show as unrealistic, given the obscenely high budget.
"how the hell does a 22 Yr old nurse and 28 Yr old afford £750k to build a mansion," a fan blasted. " How the F do these people afford this? Where do they get the money from? A young couple, with a new baby, forking out a third of a million to do up a knackered old house that they paid over a quarter million for in the first place! A different world!"
