The One Show was halted for a death announcement on Thursday (April 10) as the hosts sent well wishes to the bereaved family.
On today's instalment of the popular BBC show, Lauren Laverne and JB Gill navigated through the latest headlines and engaged with guests Beverley Knight, Harlan Coben and Nick Grimshaw.
Halfway into the programme, the duo took a moment to honour a recent recipient of the show's One Big Thank You, who had tragically passed away.
Each week, the show recognises an individual who has made significant contributions to their community.
"Before we introduce you to this week's star, we unfortunately have some sad news to share," JB began, reports the
"Last week, you may remember we thanked Brenda, who raised over £170,000 for research into cancer treatment while dealing with her own cancer diagnosis. And this week, we heard the very sad news that Brenda has died," Lauren added.
"So on behalf of everyone at The One Show, we want to say to all of Brenda's family and friends that our thoughts and our love are with you, and we feel very lucky to have been able to celebrate the amazing work that she did. That is what One Big Thank You is all about."
During last Thursday's (April 3) episode, presenters Alex Jones and Angellica Bell explained why Brenda was deserving of One Big Thank You.
In 2000, Brenda was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a distressing period for her and her loved ones, but she resolved to assist others facing similar circumstances - even as she was recuperating.
After entering remission, Brenda threw herself into philanthropy, coordinating charity balls at a nearby venue, alongside afternoon teas, garden parties, and sponsored walks that attracted over 100 people.
Brenda's battle, however, took a difficult turn when she was diagnosed with cancer for the second time recently. With limited treatment options available to her, she took a step back, but not before she hosted her 15th charity ball.
"The last month has been a real trial for our family, for Brenda and for her friends, really," said Brenda's friend Nigel, with another friend Tony adding: "She's an amazing lady, she's just one in a million."
To recognise Brenda's tireless charity work, The One Show organised a special day in her honour and recruited Strictly Come Dancing star Kai Widdrington to delight her with a surprise party in Cornwall.
The One Show airs weeknights on BBC One at 7pm
