Bhubaneswar: Daringbadi, a hill station in Odisha’s Kandhamal district, recorded the lowest minimum temperature of 11°C on Sunday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
While G Udayagiri, also in Kandhamal, was close second at 11.4°C, Jharsuguda at 11.7°C saw a sharp fall of 6.2°C from normal, which was also the highest drop in the state for the day. Angul at 14.6°C recorded the second major 4°C drop from normal.
Other places in the state where mercury dropped below 15°C are Semiliguda (11.9°C), Phulbani (12°C), Chipilima in Bargarh (13.1°C), Rourkela (13.2°C), Bhadrak (14°C), Sundargarh (14.2°C), and Koraput and Keonjhar each at 14.6°C. Moderate fog also occurred in Rourkela and shallow fog in Sundargarh.
The twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack saw the mercury drop to 17.4°C and 17.6°C, 3.2°C and 2°C below normal respectively.
While the drop in minimum night temperature is being attributed to cold north-westerly winds blowing towards the state, coupled with clear sky conditions, the IMD has forecast further dip in the mercury levels by 2-3°C during the next two days.
In its extended range outlook, the weather agency has predicted 3-5°C below normal temperature in the eastern region of the country between November 13 and 19.
