Virat Kohli is Short in Height… Rahul Dravid's Surprising Remark in Podcast

Team India’s star batsman Virat Kohli, known worldwide for his explosive batting, has been praised countless times for his technique and fitness. But this time, a comment by former India head coach Rahul Dravid about Kohli’s height has caught fans’ attention. Speaking on the Hal-Chaal Aur Sawaal podcast with Ashish Kaushik, Dravid called Kohli “short in height” – something he admitted Kohli himself “may not like.”

What Dravid Said

Dravid explained that some of the greatest batsmen in history were not tall, and their compact frame actually helped them in batting.

“Gavaskar was a balanced player. I always saw him bat, but since I was taller than him, I never copied him. Sachin Tendulkar was also very balanced. Short players have an advantage in batting. Look at Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara, Ricky Ponting, even Sir Don Bradman – all of them were short. Virat Kohli is also short in height. He won’t like me saying this,” Dravid remarked.

Tall vs Short: Changing Game Dynamics

Dravid added that while shorter players have traditionally excelled due to balance and technique, the modern T20 game favors taller players for their power-hitting ability.

“In today’s game, hitting sixes regularly has become a necessity. Taller players have the advantage, as physics itself supports them. Kevin Pietersen, Kieron Pollard – many tall players dominate in T20 cricket,” he said.

Kohli’s Impact Under Dravid

It was under Dravid’s coaching that India lifted the T20 World Cup 2024, defeating South Africa in the final. Kohli played a match-winning knock of 76 runs, guiding India to its second T20 World Cup title after 2007.
