805 rupees charged for using toilet for 6 minutes, this incident in Khatu Shyam shocked people, picture of bill went viral

It is shocking to charge Rs 805 from an ailing elderly woman for using the washroom for 6 minutes. This experience during Khatu Shyam Darshan raised questions on humanity. It was not a matter of money, but of sensitivity. Are we still able to remain human before helping in times of need?

While our culture gives examples of kindness and compassion, an incident that took place near Khatu Shyam temple in Rajasthan has raised a big question on humanity. When an ailing elderly woman needed a toilet for a few minutes in an emergency, instead of helping her, she was charged Rs 805.

A family member posted this entire story and pictures of the bill etc. on LinkedIn and wrote - I am still thinking... how can a person ask for money even after seeing a woman writhing in pain? Where are we going? This post has gone viral on the internet, reading which has created a wave of anger among the users.

This post was recently posted by Megha Upadhyay on LinkedIn. She wrote - 805 rupees just for the washroom! Is there any humanity left? I paid 805 rupees… just to use a washroom. Yes, you read it right… Yesterday I went to Khatu Shyam Ji in Rajasthan with my family. It was my mother's very old wish to visit the temple once and have darshan. We left the hotel at 6 am and by 7 am we were in the queue for darshan. We stood in the queue for two hours without any complaint. We chose the general darshan route, because mother always says, "What VIP at God's door? Everyone is equal."

But in the meantime something happened which shocked us. While standing in the queue, mother's health suddenly deteriorated. She started feeling severe pain in her stomach and felt like vomiting. Papa started looking for a washroom here and there while we were taking care of mother. But there was no proper washroom even within a radius of one kilometer. There were some public bathrooms, but not at all good in terms of condition. Mother was in pain, she was hardly able to stand.

We ran to a nearby hotel and pleaded at the reception - we don't want a room, we just want to use the washroom, just for 5-10 minutes. This is an emergency, please help. The receptionist saw mother's condition... and said, it will cost 800 rupees to use the washroom. We were all stunned. No sympathy. No hesitation. We tried to explain to them. Told them that our hotel is 7 kilometers away from here. This is very important. This is a matter of humanity and respect. But they did not relent. Meanwhile, mother was no longer able to stand. We had no choice. We had to pay the money.

When Papa asked for the bill, the receptionist started shouting. First she said, 'leave the bill, give me 100 rupees less.' But on Papa's insistence, she finally gave him a bill of 805 rupees. Just... for using the washroom for six minutes. And I am not writing all this to get sympathy. I am writing this because even today I am unable to understand... how can someone charge a price for humanity even after seeing a woman writhing in pain? What are we becoming?

All this happened not in some unknown place, but at the doorstep of a spiritual place. The place where we go in search of peace, kindness and faith. But what I saw yesterday was heart breaking.

The sadness was not about giving money. The sadness was that someone saw the suffering in front of us and asked for money first. He even said - 'You make the payment first.' Are we really progressing as humans? Or are we losing our souls along the way?

What did people say on this matter?

Now this post is being shared on different platforms of social media, which has received more than 3 thousand likes and several reposts on LinkedIn and reactions from hundreds of users. A user told Megha about the Indian Sarais Act, 1867, which says that any person in India can use the washroom anywhere for free. While a user raised the question - Megha, you are associated with the media and are a part of the fourth pillar of democracy, then why did you not resort to the Constitution?

At the same time, another commented - Natural need (nature's call) and problems like nausea, vomiting are different. It is possible that the hotel owner has charged so that the washroom has to be prepared again in terms of cleanliness. Even if they have allowed to use the washroom of the room. While the user advised to file a proper case against that hotel. And keep in mind that while filing a complaint, keep your personal details (as much as possible) hidden. Anyway, the bill that they have given is also wrong.

Let us tell you that the Inn Act, 1867 was implemented during the British Raj. Its purpose was to improve the disorder and poor conditions prevailing in inns and rest houses across India. Even though this law is now outdated, even today under this, any person gets the right to use the washroom and ask for water in the hotel.
