The Thursday Murder Club star Helen Mirren has opened up about the future of the Netflix film.

Based on ex Pointless star Richard Osman’s best-selling 2020 murder mystery novel, The Thursday Murder Club has been transformed for the silver screen with Home Alone director Chris Columbus behind the adaptation.

There has been plenty of speculation leading up to the film on if there is a sequel movie on the way, as Osman has written a total of four books in The Thursday Murder Club franchise with a fifth coming out next month.

The second novel is titled The Man Who Died Twice and was published in 2021 but while there is material to work with for a second film, there has been no official confirmation that it is going to happen.

Nevertheless, award-winning actress Mirren told Radio Times that she would be on board if it was given the green light.

When asked if the star would return, she replied: “In a nanosecond. And it would be the team getting back together, which would be great.

“We did have a wonderful time shooting this. So all of us would jump at the chance, quite honestly.”

Columbus has teased there are plans in the works for another film as well as when he was speaking to Film Stories about one particular scene, he remarked: “I don’t want to talk about the beginning of that scene, because the beginning will actually be utilised – if we’re lucky enough, and all signs seem to point in that direction that we will be shooting a sequel or the next chapter – in the second movie.”

So perhaps fans are going to be seeing plenty more of the amateur sleuths in the future after all.

Set at the stunning fictional residential home of Coopers Chase, retirees Elizabeth Chase (played by Helen Mirren), Ron Ritchie (Pierce Brosnan), Ibrahim Arif (Ben Kingsley) and Joyce Meadowcroft (Celia Imrie) enjoy delving into long forgotten unsolved murder cases.

So when a property developer suddenly dies, the gang takes it upon themselves to find out who is the killer that needs to get caught.

On top of the head-scratching plot, The Thursday Murder Club has an abundance of stars joining the main four actors, including David Tennant, Naomi Ackie and Henry Lloyd-Hughes.

Osman’s wife actress and comedian Ingrid Oliver also has a key role in the film, portraying Joyce’s daughter Joanna Meadowcroft.

The Thursday Murder Club is available to watch in cinemas and will be ready to watch on Thursday, August 28, on Netflix.
