With nothing other than a semblance of Premier League pride to play for, Ruben Amorim is ready to give youth a chance in the remaining domestic games of the season. The manager wants to rest some of his senior players ahead of the first leg of the semi-final in Bilbao on May 1.
And, against on Sunday at Old Trafford and at Brentford the following weekend, there will be opportunities for the youngsters, even though Amorim admits it is not an ideal time to promote too many academy prospects, saying: “It's not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play because they need a strong base to really show what they can do, but in this moment we need to do it.
“Ayden (Heaven) played because we had a lot of injuries at that moment. But today I think of Ayden as my player, so when he's ready to play, you don't know.
“(Harry) Amass did really well (against Lyon) and Chido (Obi-Martin) played quite well when he played. It's a difficult moment - it's not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it, we will do it.”

Amass, the 18-year-old left-back, and Obi-Martin, the 17-year-old striker look sure to get a run-out over United’s next two games but centre-half Heaven missed the Lyon game with an ankle issue. and Diogo Dalot are amongst those who are expected to start on the bench for the visit of Vitor Pereira’s Wolves.
Amorim has been hugely impressed by the job his countryman has done at Molineux and knows United, who have lost FOURTEEN Premier League games this season, are in for a tough game. The manager also namechecked Wolves star Matheus Cunha, who has been linked with a summer move to Old Trafford.
The United boss said: “I think he (Pereira) is doing an amazing job. He has real quality players - (Matheus) Cunha and all these guys, they have real quality.
“They are fresh, so we know it's going to be a tough match and we are going to need a lot from our supporters. I know it is a bad thing to ask anything this season from our fans but we need them on Sunday.”
One player who will not be rested by Amorim is Andre Onana, who was recalled for the Lyon game after being dropped for the heavy Premier League defeat at United last weekend.
And although Onana let in four in the incredible Europa League contest, Amorim believes the Ivorian keeper took a significant step forward, saying: “I think Andre did really well. He had a good game … he has to continue to have good games.
“I’m really happy for him because it was a tough moment but let’s move forward. Now he has to be ready for the next games.”
And at least Onana appeared to be pleased with his night’s work against Lyon, despite those four French goals. He posted a montage of pictures of himself with the caption: “Built with ONANA MENTALITY.”
