Coronation Street Carl Webster actor Jonathan Howard's Hollywood past as he makes cobbles debut

It's been a difficult time for the Webster family on and there's more drama to come with the arrival of Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard). Carl is Kevin and 's younger brother - and although he's been mentioned on the soap many times before, he hasn't been seen onscreen. However, fans may have seen him onscreen in various different roles.

The arrival of Carl comes after . As Abi heads to the shops to by anti-sickness medication for him, her spot. It's there where she bumps into Carl who steals her parking space, leading to an altercation between the pair.

Things then take a turn when Carl asks Debbie on a date - but it's only later she finds out he's Kevin's brother. Will Abi fight the spark or will she give in to her brother-in-law?

It may not be the first time Hollywood fans have seen Jonathan as he's starred in huge movies including Thor: The Dark World (2017), World War Z (2013), Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019) and Rex (2017).

He's also starred on the small screen too - and Coronation Street isn't his first soap role. In 2008, Jonathan starred in one episode of , where he played PC Gary Hardy. Four years later he featured in an episode of , where he played Declan Ashe.

Jonathan has also starred in Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge and The Last Ship.

Speaking on the Abi actress said: "She wanted to shut it down because it would just devastate everything. She's been given this whole life with Kevin, the kids are secure, she's got a child now who’s safe and she’s all sorted.

"Her life is calm and loving, and that is something she's craved for. But a massive part of who Abi is is dangerous. There's the addiction element; she thrives on risk-taking and danger.

"That part of her life, which was dormant, has now come up. There's like an animal inside her and she's absolutely fighting this with everything she's got."
