Thane: The Thane police arrested three individuals, including two policemen, for allegedly stealing CDR and SDR data from mobile phone numbers and selling it to a man in Thane.
The accused have been identified as Akash Sopan Surve, a police Sipai and Harshad Laxman Parab, a police sipai—both posted in the Cyber Crime unit Thane—and Mohammad Sohel Rajput.
According to the police, they received reliable information about two policemen who allegedly misused their positions and earned illicit income by stealing data from mobile numbers and selling it to the accused, Rajput, on May 3. Upon verifying this information, a senior police officer took cognizance of the matter and suspended the two policemen on May 5.
The police stated that an FIR has been registered against the accused under Sections 303(2), 314, and 316(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, along with Sections 46, 66, and 72 of the Information Technology Act.
Thane's Crime Branch Unit 1 arrested the three individuals on April 5 and produced them in court, where they were remanded to police custody for further investigation.
