Mumbai: In a horrifying incident, a 20-year-old man was booked for raping and killing a 7-year-old kid near Kurla East Railway Station. The incident took place on Tuesday. The Chunabhatti police arrested the accused Mohammad Salman Alam Anath-ul-Haq, who is a godown worker and resident of Bhiwandi.
The incident happened when the accused took the victim at the isolated spot near a graveyard, where he raped the minor. When the victim started screaming, the accused smashed his head on ground killing him on the spot. Police said the accused spotted the boy in the area near Kurla East Railway station and lured him with chocolates and other edible items, according to a Hindustan Times report.
Police stated that the accused was in Kurla to meet a friend. Local residents informed the police on Tuesday evening after spotting the body near the Kurla East Railway Station. Chunabhatti police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and filed a case of rape, murder and kidnapping after the receiving the post-mortem report.
Providing more details about the case, the official stated, with the help of the CCTV footage, the accused was identified and the police arrested him on Wednesday. The victim was resident of Dharavi, police added.
The police scanned CCTV footage and found footage of accused committing the crime near Kurla railway station. Police identified the accused with the help of local residents and traced him.
