Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 7-year-old girl from Bhopal was airlifted to Gurgaon for treatment of a serious liver condition. She had been admitted to a private hospital in Bhopal on May 19 with complaints of stomach pain, yellowing of the skin, and blood in the stool. Preliminary investigations revealed acute hepatitis with impending liver failure.
On May 23 at 8:20 a.m., she was referred to the Pediatric Liver Unit of a private hospital in Gurgaon for further treatment.
The air ambulance was arranged by the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Office, Bhopal, in coordination with the District Administration and the Directorate of Health Services. The transfer was carried out with assistance from doctors in Gurgaon to ensure seamless care.
Support from Minister Vishwas Sarang
The girl is a resident of Ward-40 in Narela Assembly constituency. Her family approached Minister Vishwas Sarang during a public grievance session at his residence.
Understanding the seriousness of the case, the minister immediately arranged for her initial treatment at AIIMS Bhopal, where her condition was diagnosed.
The entire process was conducted under the supervision of District Health Officer Dr. Manoj Hurmade and coordinated by the team of doctors led by CMHO Bhopal, Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari. The Health Department team remained present from the time of the patient’s discharge in Bhopal until her airlifting.
Seeing the emergency, she was shifted to Gurugram on May 23 at 8:20 am using the PM Shri Air Ambulance. Minister Sarang also spoke to the doctors on Saturday to check on her condition and assured the family of full support.
The girl was first admitted to a private hospital on May 19 after complaints of severe stomach pain, yellowing of the skin, and blood in the stool. Doctors there found her condition critical and advised immediate specialized treatment, which was not available locally.
The family had an Ayushman Bharat Card, which made them eligible for free treatment and air transport.
CMHO Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari stated that under this scheme of the Madhya Pradesh government, critically ill patients are receiving timely treatment at advanced medical centers. Free transportation is provided for treatment at all government and Ayushman-affiliated hospitals both within and outside the state for Ayushman card holders. For patients without Ayushman cards, free transportation is available to government hospitals within the state, while paid transport is available at contracted rates to hospitals outside the state.
