Anupam Kher is a name that requires no introduction. Widely regarded as one of Bollywood’s most accomplished actors, he has featured in over 540 films throughout his illustrious career. His repertoire includes classics like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, Ram Lakhan, and Chaalbaaz, cementing his status as a cinematic icon. Despite this remarkable success, Kher continues to reside in a rented apartment, a choice shaped by personal values and family bonds.

Family First: Lessons in Humility

During an appearance on Zindagi with Richa on YouTube, Kher shared insights into his family relationships. He explained that his brother has never been envious of his achievements, highlighting the mutual respect between them. Kher noted that his parents spent more time with his brother and sister-in-law and expressed dismay over the conflicts that often arise among siblings over property. This perspective, he revealed, partly motivates his decision to continue living in rented accommodation. He emphasized that the generosity life has afforded him feels incomplete if not shared with his loved ones

Brother in the Spotlight

Kher’s younger brother, Raju Kher, is also a recognized name in the entertainment industry. He has acted in films such as Ghulam, Uunchai, and Om Jai Jagadish and appeared on the television show Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.

Wealth and Earnings

According to Moneymint, Anupam Kher’s net worth is estimated at an impressive ₹450 crore. Reports by DNA indicate that his film fees range between ₹3 and ₹5 crore, with an annual income of around ₹30 crore.

A Bold Beginning

Reflecting on his journey in an interview with Hindustan Times, Kher recounted leaving Government College, Sanjauli, where he was pursuing economics, to follow his passion for theatre at Panjab University, Chandigarh. Lacking the courage to ask his parents for travel money, he borrowed ₹118 from his mother’s temple collection. Kher’s theatrical debut involved performing a piece originally intended for girls, which caught the attention of Balwant Gargi on the interview panel.

Despite initial parental shock—his mother confronted him and his father reassured her—Kher received a ₹200 scholarship and officially joined the university, marking the start of his celebrated acting career (Hindustan Times).
