Goldman Sachs has seen its largest-ever managing director promotion class in India, with 49 employees promoted to the MD position this year, as compared to 35 in 2023.
This underscores the substantial opportunities the firm sees in the country and its growing investments, and builds on its strong impact over more than three decades of supporting Indian businesses, the firm said in a statement on Friday.
Goldman Sachs has a biannual ‘managing director’ promotion cycle, which is the second highest level at the firm after ‘partner’.
The highest number of promotions, at 38, have happened in the Bengaluru office that is a key global technology hub for the firm. This is followed by six promotions in the Mumbai office that drives Goldman Sachs’ India businesses and five promotions in the Hyderabad office.
Globally, 638 individuals have been promoted as MDs in 2025 of which 94 are Indian citizens (as compared to 80 Indians in 2023 & 71 in 2021)
In India, the Bengaluru office saw the largest number of MD promotions after New York and London. India is the largest presence of Goldman Sachs after the headquarters in New York.
Goldman Sachs has over 8000 employees based in India and employs around 46000 professionals globally. The MD promotees in India include: Kailash Soni, head of India ECM; and Santanu Sengupta, chief India economist.
