UK weather TODAY: Met Office maps turn orange on Tuesday as Britain hotter than Rome in 20C blast

Brits are set for another hot day today where temperatures could hit 20C which could make it hotter than.

A high pressure system sits over the country which has brought plenty of sunshine and blue skies over recent days as well as cold nights with temperatures dropping below zero overnight into Tuesday.

Many families are starting Easter holidays and for fine they could be better off staying at home than heading to popular destinations like Rome where the temperature is expected to peak at 16C today.

In the UK the hottest areas are expected to be in central where it could reach 20C and for much of the country it will hit the high teens.

weather forecaster Louise Lear said: “It is still about high pressure keeping things very quiet indeed, the winds light as well. We could see a little bit more in the way of cloud spilling into the northern and western isles through the day but on the whole the emphasis is on that dry, settled and sunny story right across the country.

"We could see temperatures once again peaking at 19C, possibly 20C. Just a little bit fresher across those east coasts next to that cold North Sea. Unfortunately with all that sunshine around tree pollen is very high across a good portion of the country, through Wales, central and southern England.”

While the states for today: “A chilly start with any early fog clearing to leave a sunny day for most. The far north of Scotland however will remain largely cloudy with perhaps some cloud at times near North Sea coasts. Warmest in the west.”

And then looking to tonight when temperatures will drop again it adds: “A largely clear start to the night, but low cloud will spread in from the North Sea across many eastern areas. A widespread rural frost where skies remain clear.”

It is expected to be a similar picture for the rest of the week and temperatures could get even higher by Saturday as southwesterly air moves northwards but then by Sunday we could see a more showery outlook.

And then in a dramatic shift, new maps from WXCharts, which use Met Desk data,, April 14, and remaining until midnight the following day. Maps predict as much as 1cm of could settle along England's border with as well as parts of Northumberland. The Weather team also warned "uncertainty remains" from Monday 14 to Sunday, April 20.
