Vadodara: An eight-foot crocodile was found dead in the Vishwamitri river on Wednesday afternoon. Passersby saw the body floating in the river near the cable-stayed bridge in Sayajibaug.
"I reached the spot with forest officials. The body was taken out of the river by firemen," said Mahendrasinh Rathod, a social activist.
This is the sixth crocodile to be found dead in the river in the last four months. Wildlife activists have raised concerns about crocodile deaths even as the forest officials haven't been able to ascertain the cause behind these sudden deaths.
"The VMC is carrying out de-silting in the Vishwamitri but these frequent crocodile deaths are a cause of concern. An inquiry should carried out to find out the reasons for it," said Sanjay Soni, who has been working on crocodile conservation .
